Garmin Connect Status Page
As you may or may not know, MotionBased will soon be replaced by Garmin Connect. The same team who brought you MotionBased is working on Garmin Connect. We are making this switch to:
- Improve speed and performance
- Improve overall design and user interface
- Simplify the upload process
- Better match metrics reported on GPS devices
- Support Mac and PC equally for all features
- Remove dependency on Adobe SVG Viewer for interactive features
- Develop a platform for rapid development (6-8 week cycles)
- Develop a platform to support multiple languages
What's the timing on Garmin Connect?
Actually, Garmin Connect has been live for several months, but unless you own a Garmin Forerunner 50, you've not been able to use the site.
But now, we're ready to expose more of Garmin Connect to the public. Over the next four months, we'll release Garmin Connect in three stages, culminating with the MotionBased migration on May 21, 2008.
February 26, 2008
The Edge 605 and 705 will be the first GPS devices supported on Garmin Connect. Please note, you will be able to upload activities from these two devices to BOTH Garmin Connect and MotionBased. If you choose to upload to both sites you will have duplicate activities to clean up once the migration to Garmin Connect is complete.
April 9, 2008
The next phase of support will include the Forerunner 405. Uploads from the Forerunner 405 will ONLY work at Garmin Connect. If you have activities from other devices stored at MotionBased, you will need to keep your Forerunner 405 activities separate at Garmin Connect for 6 weeks.
Mac users: the Garmin Forerunner 405 uses the new ANT Agent to transfer data to and from your computer. Since Mac support for the ANT Agent isn't scheduled until late 2008, this device won't work on a Mac until then.
May 21, 2008
This one is the biggie. On this date, we will turn off upload capabilities to MotionBased and all MotionBased customers will be directed to Garmin Connect. You will sign in with the same username/password that you use at MotionBased and your entire history from MotionBased will appear in your Garmin Connect account.
How does the MotionBased migration work?
- You won't need to do anything during the migration to Garmin Connect. We will migrate all of your activities and information over to the new site.
- You will use the same sign in credentials from MotionBased at Garmin Connect.
- All MotionBased links will be redirected to Garmin Connect.
- All Viewports will be redirected to Garmin Connect.
- We will support all Garmin fitness, most handheld USB and ANT Agent devices (except ANT Agent on the Mac).
What about paid subscriptions?
- We will remove the "Most Recent 10 Activities" limitation for non-paying users. You will have access to all of your activities from the first upload. This includes all activities previously uploaded to MotionBased.
- We will offer a premium service, Garmin Connect Plus, to access advanced features (these features are TBD).
- The annual subscription to Garmin Connect Plus will cost $40 USD. We will not offer monthly subscriptions for the time being.
- For all customers with an active MotionBased Standard subscription (annual subscribers only), we will convert your account to Garmin Connect Plus and extend your subscription for one year from your expiration date for FREE.
