In order to obtain the best MotionBased analysis with your Forerunner 201 you should get in the habit of uploading your activity after every workout. DO NOT PRESS RESET as this will reduce the amount of history stored and your valuable information could be lost.
If you didn't have a chance to upload your activity before doing another then press save. It is undesirable, but not catastrophic.
Updated GPS Software
Keep the embedded software on your GPS up-to date. This helps ensure good connectivity with MotionBased.
GPS Battery Conservation
Battery issues are by far a major obstacle to obtaining good results with MotionBased. There's nothing more frustrating than losing key data in the middle of an activity because the batteries died.
Please follow some of these tips to conserve your GPS battery power. Note that some tips apply to specific GPS devices, but as a whole if you follow these guidelines, you should be okay.
- Change Compass setting to OFF in the Setup menu.
- Change GPS Mode mode to "Battery Save" in the Setup menu.
- Choose the appropriate Battery Setting of "Alkaline" or "NIMH" in the Setup menu.
- Finally, make sure you'll have enough battery juice before you start your activity. We recommend using a rechargeable GPS unit or rechargeable batteries for single-day activities
GPS Reception
GPS receiver only works outside because it needs a line-of-site path to the GPS satellites. Any object can block the line-of-site - trees, buildings, roofs, bags, bodies, even clothes. We recommend placing your GPS in the following locations based on activity type:
| Activity | Location |
| Running | Wrist or high on arm |
| Cycling | Handlebar or high in jersey pocket with little obstruction |
| Hiking | Wrist or high in top pocket of backpack |
GPS Auto-Calibration
If your GPS device has an altimeter, we recommend that your turn ON the Auto-Calibration setting in the Setup menu. With this setting, the altimeter works with the GPS device to ensure the most accurate elevation. We also recommend that you manually reset the altimeter to a know elevation every month.
